This post describes how to set up a connection to the TU Dresden VPN with your Symbian S60 v3/v5 mobile phone. An english version is available too. The english version is written below. Leider wurde mir gesagt, dass es nicht umfassend sicher ist. (jemand anderes könnte sich als VPN-Server ausgeben und das preshared key ist ja sowieso nicht sicher, da dieser erstens offen und zweitens einheitlich ist.) Ich übernehme also keinerlei Garantie für die Sicherheit der übertragenen Daten! Wenn Du dass hier immernoch liest, folgt nun ein Tutorial zum Einrichten des TU Dresden VPN auf einem Symbian S60 v3/v5. Schritt 1: Herunterladen und Installieren von Nokia mobile VPN Lade die Applikation für dein Handy hier herunter und installiere sie. In dem Paket sind drei Teile enthalten, die einzeln bestätigt werden müssen. Jetzt sollte ein Eintrag "VPN" in deinem Einstellungen->Verbindungen vorhanden sein. Schritt 2: Neustarten des Handy Durch das Neustarten des Handys werden Dateiendungen für VPN registriert. (Bei manchen Modellen kann das ggf. Übersprungen werden) Schritt 3: Lade diese Datei herunter Schritt 4: Öffne die Datei und bestätige, dass du die Richtlinie installieren willst Schritt 5: Einrichten der Standardverbindung Öffne Einstellungen->Ziele und wähle "Intranet" aus. Wähle Optionen->Standardverbindung. Öffne Einstellungen->Ziele->Intranet und wähle "VPN TU Dresden" aus. Wähle Optionen->Bearbeiten Setze den Internetzugangspunkt auf "Internet" Der Nokia Browser hat eine eigene Einstellung für die Standardverbindung. Solltest Du auch hier VPN nutzen wollen, öffne den Nokia Browser, wähle Optionen->Einstellungen->Allgemein und wähle den Zugangspunkt "Intranet" aus. Wann immer Du Dich über Intranet mit VPN einloggst sollte er Deinen ZIH-Nutzernamen und das dazugehörigen Passwort abfragen. Der Nutzername wird gespeichert, das Passwort nicht. Schritt 6: Testen Öffne die Seite wieistmeineip.de und schaue nach, was Du für eine IP hast. Select Options->Standard connection Open Setup->Targets->Intranet, select "VPN TU Dresden". Select Options->Edit. Change the Internet acces point to "Internet" The Nokia Browser has its own standard connection. To change it, open the Nokia browser, select Options->Edit->General and change the connection point to "Intranet" Whenever you connect to the Intranet and VPN, you have to provide your ZIH username and the associated password. While the username is stored, the password has to be typed whenever you connect to VPN. Step 6: Testing Open the site whatismyip.com and check your IP. If it starts with 141.30. or 141.76. you successfully established a connection.

I’ve been messing around with different syncing mechanism over the passed days. The goal was to keep my smartphone (Nokia E71 with symbian s60 3rd), two apple notebooks (iBook(OS 10.4) and Powerbook(OS 10.5)) and my pc’s at home and work all running Debian or its derivatives aka Ubuntu in sync.

Fo Mail I use my own IMAP-Server – so theres no problem as all mail is kept in only one place – the mail server

Bookmarks are now synced using the foxmarks tool which works not only for Firefox but also safari (and even IE). I use my own secure webdav folder simply because i trust myself more than the (trustworthy) foxmark people.

Most complicated was to get my addresses, notes and events distributed between evolution under linux with my smartphone running symbian. The solution is Funambol in connection with SyncEvolution on the pc’s. The Nokia E71 has its own “native” synchronization client. For syncevolution there’s also a tray-tool that does timed automatic syncs – genesis.

I will try this setup the following weeks and see if it works well enough for productive use.
